Typical Holy Well

In all I have been able to list 236 wells in Pembrokeshire, but as this represents my own researches, it is clear that there must be very many more. I have come across many of their names in ancient manuscripts, in deeds and other documents and on old maps and plans, particularly in Tithe maps and Schedules made for each Pembrokeshire parish between the years 1836 and 1845. Special mention must be made of the Tithe maps. They are extremely valuable as the majority of them contain the name of each field, a number of which are no longer in use. As the list of fields are accompanied by a large scale parish map it is possible to locate them with precision, and this has enabled me to discover several wells, particularly those of saints. I have been through the Tithe maps and Schedules of every parish in Pembrokeshire, and they contain, in addition to names, other useful historical information.
